It’s all in the family…

Dark Oil began as a two-person business that operated out of the Dark family home in Zenda, KS. Working as a Standard Oil agent, Leonard Dark made fuel deliveries to local farmers and ranchers while his wife Vera took orders over the phone.

The family and the business relocated to Attica, KS in 1959 where it’s still headquartered today.

The couple’s son Clay joined the business in 1974 and dramatic expansion came in the following years. They added a second bobtail unit and purchased a semi-truck and trailer to better serve their commercial accounts. In 1982 Clay’s wife Kathy came on board to help with the accounting and paperwork.

The family’s third generation joined Dark Oil in 1995 when Clay and Kathy’s son Eric moved back home. The company grew and they added an office and warehouse in Medicine Lodge. Eric’s wife Toni came into the fold to manage the company’s convenience store, Dark’s Landing, in 1998.

Even though technology and time has changed how we do business, it hasn’t changed the way we do business. We’re just as dedicated now to good old-fashioned customer service as we were way back in 1951.
